Installation Tip: In softwood (pine, fir, plywood, pegboard) drive by hand or with a hook-driver bit until the shank seats. In hardwood (oak, maple) or trim work, drill a pilot 1/16" smaller than the shank diameter to avoid splitting. For panel mounting in drywall use a 1/4" toggle anchor or hollow-wall plug - the screw threads alone won't hold weight in gypsum. Slip the open end of an open-end wrench or pliers over the shank for extra leverage on stubborn driving.

Selection Tip: The 2-5/8" size is the upper end of the general-purpose family - sized for heavier shop and garage loads (coiled extension cords, garden hose loops, rope, larger tools, bar clamps) where the deeper throat keeps loops securely seated. Step up to 3-1/16" for the largest loads or step down to 2-1/4" / 1-13/16" for general-purpose tool and utensil hanging.

Working load varies by hook size and how the load hangs (straight-down vs angled pull); inspect the shank periodically for bend or pull-out and replace any hook that has shifted or rotated under load.
