Selection Tip: 180 is the right pre-finish grit for almost every wood project: cabinet doors, furniture tops, trim, and door panels heading for stain or a wipe-on oil. Going finer than 180 on hardwood (220+) actually closes the pores and reduces stain uptake, leaving blotchy color. Use 180 as the final grit before the first finish coat, then 320 between coats once the topcoat is on.

Use Tip: PSA discs are non-vacuum - no holes in the backing - so they shed dust to the air. Pair with a shop vac at the bag port, or budget 30 seconds of compressed-air blow-off every 2 to 3 minutes to keep the disc free-cutting. Burnish the disc onto a clean, oil-free pad with thumb pressure for a few seconds after sticking; that prevents the disc from peeling under heat. Let the sander glide - downward pressure breaks the grain prematurely and burns the wood.
