Tip: 18-gauge wire nails are the thinnest in the wire-nail range -- ideal for picture frames, cigar boxes, fine trim, and hobby work where splitting risk needs to stay low. At 5/8" it's shallow enough for card-stock layering, thin trim, and picture-frame corners. For exterior or damp-location work, switch to a galvanized finish nail instead -- bright nails will rust.
