3M Aluminum Oxide Sandpaper combines tough aluminum oxide grain with a durable backing for general-purpose surface prep on wood, paint, metal, and plastic. Coarse grit (around 60) is the stripping grit - removing old paint and varnish, leveling rough lumber, and taking down high spots quickly before stepping up to medium and fine.

• Aluminum oxide abrasive grain - tough, durable, long-lasting
• 9" x 11" full sheets - tear into thirds for 1/3-sheet palm sanders or quarters for 1/4-sheet sanders
• Works on wood, paint, metal, plastic, fiberglass, and drywall
• Heavy-removal grit for paint stripping and rough-lumber leveling
• Hand-sand with a sanding block, or fold and tear to fit pad sanders
• 4 sheets per pack (coarse sheets are sold 4 per pack because the grain bulks up the stack)

Tip: On rough lumber, sand at a slight angle to the grain at 60 grit for fastest stock removal, then finish with-the-grain at 80 or 100 before moving to finer grits.
