3M Aluminum Oxide Sandpaper combines tough aluminum oxide grain with a durable backing for general-purpose surface prep on wood, paint, metal, and plastic. Medium grit (around 100) is the general-purpose middle step - smoothing scratches left by coarse paper, leveling minor surface flaws, and breaking the gloss on existing finishes before repainting.

Tip: Don't skip grits. Going coarse-to-fine in 50-100 grit jumps (60 to 100 to 150 to 220) gives the cleanest final surface.
