The Southwire SmartBox is a 1-gang non-metallic PVC device box engineered for residential and light commercial wiring. The adjustable depth feature lets the device flange slide to match the finished wall thickness after rough-in, so the trim plate sits flush whether the drywall is 1/2" or 5/8" and whether a layer of tile or paneling goes on top. Top and bottom integrated wire-entrance clamps secure NM (Romex) cable without separate connectors, and the one-piece molded PVC body resists cracking under hammer strikes during stud framing.

Install Tip: Rough-in flush with the stud face; once drywall is hung, back the adjustment screw out to bring the device flange exactly even with the finished wall surface. This is what makes the cover plate sit flat without shims and what makes the box worth using over a fixed-depth alternative.

Note: NM cable clamps accept standard 14/2, 14/3, 12/2, and 12/3 Romex; feed the cable through the clamp opening with the sheath stripped to the recommended length before setting the box.
