Tip: Decorative ties are appearance hardware - the actual load between beam and post must be carried by the wood-to-wood joint plus a structural connector rated for the span (such as a Simpson Strong-Tie joist hanger or column cap). Install this piece after the structural connection is sound, then through-drill lag screws of a length that fully embeds into the post without breaking through the back face.
