SCHEDULE 80 PVC PLUG, MPTThis Charlotte Pipe Schedule 80 PVC male threaded plug seals off unused female pipe thread openings in pressure piping systems. The Schedule 80 heavy-wall construction handles higher pressures than Schedule 40, making it suitable for industrial, commercial, and demanding residential applications such as irrigation manifold caps and pool plumbing test ports.
- Size: 1" MPT (male pipe thread)
- Schedule 80 PVC - thick-wall construction for higher pressure ratings than Schedule 40
- Threads into standard NPT female pipe thread fittings
- Gray PVC for easy identification as pressure-rated (distinguishes from white Schedule 40)
- Conforms to ASTM D2464 for threaded Schedule 80 PVC fittings
- PVC construction resists corrosion and most household chemicals
- Manufacturer part number: PVC 08113 1400HA
Threaded vs spigot plug: An MPT plug screws INTO a female threaded fitting. This is different from a spigot plug, which solvent-welds into a slip socket. Match the plug type to the port type you need to seal.
Schedule 40/80 compatibility: Schedule 80 threaded fittings interchange with Schedule 40 threaded fittings of the same nominal size, since NPT thread geometry is identical between schedules.
Temperature limit: PVC has a working-temperature ceiling around 140 deg F. For hot water or higher-temperature service, use CPVC fittings instead.
Installation tip: Wrap the male threads with 2-3 turns of PTFE thread-seal tape (clockwise as viewed from the open end of the plug), then hand-tighten into the receiving fitting. Snug with a wrench by one to one-and-a-half additional turns - no more. PVC threads strip easily; overtightening cracks the receiving fitting. Do NOT use solvent cement on threaded joints.
