ORBIT SCHEDULE 80 PVC SPRINKLER RISER - 3/4" X 12"Connect underground sprinkler lateral lines to spray heads, rotor heads, and impact sprinklers with this Orbit Schedule 80 PVC riser. The thicker-walled Schedule 80 construction delivers higher pressure rating and significantly better impact resistance than Schedule 40, so the riser tolerates mower wheels, foot traffic, and accidental shovel strikes that would crack a thin-walled riser.
- Material: Schedule 80 PVC (gray) - higher pressure rating and wall thickness than Schedule 40
- Connection: 3/4" MPT both ends (NPT) for direct thread-in to lateral fittings and sprinkler bodies
- Nominal diameter: 3/4"
- Length: 12"
- Service rating: cold water sprinkler and irrigation lateral pressure (typical residential 30-80 psi); not for hot water or pressurized chemical service
- UV-stabilized gray PVC compound for exposed-rise applications
- Pre-threaded both ends, ready to install with thread sealant tape or paste
- Compatible with all standard sprinkler bodies and lateral fittings accepting 3/4" NPT
Diameter Use Case: Larger-zone irrigation - feeds higher-flow rotor heads, large-pattern impact sprinklers, and commercial/agricultural spray heads where pipe friction loss at 1/2" would limit performance. Suitable for higher-flow zones up to ~10 GPM at the riser, reducing pressure loss versus 1/2" risers on the same head.
Length Tip: Shrub riser for spray and rotor heads serving short shrubs, ornamental grasses, and annual color beds where the head needs to project well above 6"-9" of mature plant height to deliver an unobstructed spray pattern.
Schedule 80 vs Schedule 40: Schedule 80 PVC has a thicker wall and higher impact rating than Schedule 40 white PVC, making it the right choice for risers that sit above grade where they will see mower wheels, foot traffic, and weed-trimmer impact. Schedule 80 is also more rigid, so longer risers (12" and up) stay vertical and do not flex visibly under spray-head reaction force. The gray color also helps you distinguish risers from white DWV pipe at a glance.
Installation Tip: Apply two to three wraps of PTFE thread sealant tape (yellow or pink heavy-duty grade) to the male threads going into the lateral fitting, hand-tight plus 1/2 to 1 turn with a strap wrench. Do NOT over-torque - PVC threads can crack at the first thread engagement under wrench leverage. Leave a slip joint or swing joint at the lateral side for longer risers so seasonal soil movement and accidental impact does not transfer load directly to the lateral pipe fitting.
