RING SHANK DRYWALL NAILS

Annular ring shank drywall nails for fastening 5/8" gypsum wallboard or doubled 3/8" panels to wood studs and ceiling joists. The ring shank grips the wood fibers and resists pop-out over time, holding the panel tight against the framing through humidity cycling and seasonal expansion. Compliant with ASTM C514 / GWB-54, the industry standard for drywall nails.

  • Style: GWB-54 ring shank drywall nail
  • Length: 1-3/8"
  • Gauge: 12-1/2
  • Finish: Bright (uncoated steel)
  • Head: Slightly countersunk for taping and mudding
  • Point: Long sharp diamond point for clean entry
  • Pack: 50 Lb bulk box (full house hang, multi-room contractor jobs)
  • MPN: 107050138

Length selection: 1-3/8" suits 5/8" drywall on wood framing, or doubled 3/8" panels. A common pick when 1-1/4" feels too short for thicker board.

Tip: Drive the head just below the panel surface (a slight dimple) without tearing the paper, then cover with joint compound. Standard pattern is one nail every 7" along studs in the field and 6"-8" perimeter spacing. For better long-term hold use the double-nailing technique - pair the nails about 2"-3" apart at each stud.

Bright finish note: Uncoated bright steel - for interior dry locations only. Use galvanized or coated fasteners for bathrooms, garages exposed to humidity, or any outdoor application.

Drywall screw alternative: Drywall screws have largely replaced nails for new construction since they hold tighter and resist pop. Ring shank nails remain useful for patches, ceiling work where a quick hammer hit beats driving screws, and budget-conscious jobs.
