Application Tip: 11/64" is the standard pilot drill for 5/16" lag screws in softwood and a common pilot hole for #14 wood screws and small hardware mounting.

Drilling Tip: The 1/4" hex shank lets you run this bit in either a drill or an impact driver, but the right speed depends on material. For metal: slow drill speed (under 1000 RPM on small bits, slower on larger), use cutting oil, and let the bit cut without pushing. For wood and plastic: medium-to-high speed, clear chips on the way back out. In an impact driver: short trigger pulls work best - long sustained impact can overheat the bit on metal and dull the cutting edge.
