K-T INDUSTRIES E7018 LOW HYDROGEN WELDING ELECTRODE - 1/8", 5 LbAWS E7018 low hydrogen stick (SMAW) electrode for shielded-arc welding on low, medium, and high carbon steels. Delivers 70,000 PSI minimum tensile strength with low spatter, clean beads, and easy arc starts. The iron-powder low-hydrogen flux covering minimizes porosity, undercut, and hydrogen-induced cracking - the go-to electrode for structural steel, pipe, pressure vessels, and code-compliant fabrication.
- AWS classification: E7018 per AWS A5.1
- Diameter: 1/8"
- Package: 5 Lb
- Tensile strength: 70,000 PSI minimum (70 KSI)
- Polarity: AC or DC reverse (DCEP)
- Position: all (flat, horizontal, vertical-up, overhead)
- Typical amperage: 90-145 amps
Use cases: structural steel (ASTM A36, A572, A992), mild steel pipe Schedule 40+, low-alloy fabrication, boiler and pressure vessel root and fill passes (ASME Section IX), heavy equipment repair, farm and ranch welding. Compatible with most constant-current (CC) stick welders.
Storage Tip: E7018 is moisture-sensitive. Once the box or tube is opened, store rods in a heated rod oven at 250-300 deg F to keep the flux dry. Rods exposed to ambient air for more than 4 hours should be rebaked at 700-800 deg F for one hour before use. Damp rods cause porosity, hydrogen embrittlement, and weld cracking - the failure mode the low-hydrogen designation exists to prevent.
Technique Tip: Run a drag/stringer bead with the electrode angled 70-80 deg into the joint. Avoid wide weaves on root passes. Strike the arc by scratching it like a match - tap-starting can chip the flux coating. Vertical-up beads run slowly with a slight whip at the top to control the puddle.
