The Irwin Speedbor short-length spade bit is designed for drilling in tight spaces where a standard 6" bit will not fit. The cutting head matches a full-size Speedbor, but the overall length is trimmed for access between studs, joists, and inside cabinetry. The blue-paint coating protects the body from rust, and the 1/4" quick-change hex shank locks into impact drivers as well as standard chucks.

Tip: The 1" diameter is the common size for through-bored holes for shower-rod brackets, closet-rod sockets, and pulling multiple cables through a single stud. Drill at a controlled speed and back the bit out periodically to clear chips.
