GEARWRENCH DEEP SOCKET - 3/8" DRIVE, 6-POINT SAE - 1/4"This GearWrench 1/4" deep socket has a 6-point opening for secure, round-fastener engagement and reduced rounding on worn or rusted bolts. The deep-well length reaches recessed and protruding fasteners that standard-depth sockets cannot - alternator bolts, spark plugs, valve cover studs, and threaded posts that stick up past the surrounding hardware.
- Size: 1/4" SAE
- Drive: 3/8" square drive
- Configuration: 6-point opening
- Surface Drive technology contacts the flats of the fastener (not the corners) for higher torque transfer and less rounding
- Chamfered opening guides the fastener cleanly into the socket
- Chrome vanadium alloy steel construction with full-polish chrome finish for corrosion resistance
- Hard-stamped size markings for easy identification in a tray or wall holder
- Meets or exceeds ASME B107.1 specifications
Tip: Use 1/4" for very small machine screws, small bracket bolts, instrument/dashboard hardware - the smallest SAE size in routine automotive use; deep length reaches studs and threaded posts in electrical equipment. Deep sockets give you reach but trade torque control - on stuck or rusted fasteners use a 6-point (not 12-point) and add penetrating oil before applying force. For lug nuts or anything over 80 ft-lb, step up to a 1/2" drive socket - the 3/8" drive square is rated for general-purpose automotive work, not heavy torque.
