Replacement deadlatch assembly for Kwikset residential entry door hardware. A deadlatch has a small auxiliary plunger alongside the main latchbolt - when the door is closed and the plunger is depressed by the strike plate, the main bolt locks in place so it can't be retracted by shimming a card down the door edge. The 6-way design covers the three most common door preparations in one kit.

Tip: The deadlatch plunger has to press flush against the metal of the strike plate to engage. If your door isn't locking the latch in place, check the strike alignment - the plunger must contact metal, not fall into the strike hole.
