Protect the bottom of a high-traffic door from scuffs, shoe marks, dent dings, vacuum bumps, and pet scratches with the National Hardware V1996 kickplate. A solid aluminum face plate mounts to the lower portion of a wood or metal door with the included screws and absorbs the daily abuse that would otherwise show as paint chips on the wood or finish scrapes on the metal. The plate also reads as a finished design detail -- common on commercial entries, home front doors, kitchen-to-garage doors, mudroom doors, and apartment unit entries.

Sizing Tip: Standard plate widths are 6" for residential interior/secondary doors and 8" for residential entry doors and commercial-style applications. 30" length fits a standard 32"-36" wide door with a 1" reveal on each side. 34" length is the commercial-style fit for 36" doors. Measure the existing door width and choose a plate at least 2" narrower so it does not foul the door stop or hinge edge.

Installation Note: Position the plate with the bottom edge about 1/4" above the door sweep or threshold gap so it does not drag. Center it left-to-right on the door, mark and pre-drill the screw holes (3/32" bit in wood, 1/8" with a self-drill point in steel), peel the protective film off the finish side after installation, and reinstall the door sweep or weather strip if removed. For metal doors, swap the included wood screws for self-drilling sheet-metal screws of the same head style.

Finish Selection Tip: Matte black is the contemporary statement finish. Pairs with black levers, black hinges, modern dark trim, and farmhouse or industrial decor. High contrast against light-colored doors; visually disappears on dark-stained or black-painted doors.
