MADISON MILL OAK DOWEL - 5/8" x 36"Madison Mill red oak dowel rod for furniture joinery, craft projects, shelf pegs, hangers, plant stakes, tool handles, and general woodworking. Red oak is a strong, open-grain hardwood that holds glue tenaciously, turns and machines cleanly without tearout, and accepts stain and finish beautifully -- a step up from poplar or birch dowel for projects that need real holding strength or a clear-grain visual.
- Material: Solid red oak hardwood
- Diameter: 5/8"
- Length: 36"
- Smooth, sanded surface ready for stain, paint, or clear finish
- Strong open-grain pattern that machines, turns, and drills cleanly
- Holds glue strongly in dowel-joint and mortise applications
- Takes oil-base stain beautifully; pre-condition with sealer or use gel stain before water-base finishes to control grain raise
- Sold individually (one 36" dowel rod)
Tip: Chair stretchers, small tool handles, lighter broomsticks and mop handles, and garden stake markers for established plants. Sand the cut ends and edges with 220-grit to soften before staining; for dowel joinery, drill the mating hole 1/64" larger than the dowel diameter and use yellow PVA wood glue for the strongest bond.
