MAZEL GALVANIZED TWIST NAILS - 2-1/2", 5 LBSpiral-shank twist nails for pressure-treated decking, fence boards, 1x trim on PT framing, and exterior 5/4 board work where smooth-shank nails would back out under cyclic loading. The helical twist forces the shank to rotate on driving, giving roughly two to four times the withdrawal resistance of a comparable smooth-shank common and locking against the grain to resist the loosening that wet-dry-wet wood cycles cause in deck and fence service.
- Size: 2-1/2" (8d)
- Wire gauge: 11-1/2
- Head: flat, diamond point, slightly countersunk 9/32" head
- Hot-dip galvanized carbon steel - rated for direct contact with pressure-treated wood; the ACQ and MCA copper chemistry used in modern treated lumber corrodes plain or electro-plated steel
- Spiral shank rotates on driving and grips against the grain
- Pack: 5 lb bulk box
Use: Standard pressure-treated deck face-nailing of 5/4 deck boards through 2x joists, fence boards through 2x rails, 1x trim on PT framing, lattice frames, and skirting work where the nail must hold against cyclic moisture loading.
Technique: Drive square to the face so the head countersinks flush; the slight 9/32" head does not need a nail set on softwood but stop short of dimpling the wood fiber on cedar and redwood face boards.
Pack tip: The 5 lb box runs roughly 600 nails - sized for a typical residential deck face-nailing pass or several fence sections. Use the 1 lb box for repair work and the 50 lb box for contractor-scale jobs.
