PVC JACKETED THERMOSTAT CABLE - 20/3, 500 FT

Unshielded 20 AWG HVAC thermostat cable for low-voltage control wiring between the thermostat, furnace, air handler and condenser. 3 solid bare copper conductors with color-coded PVC insulation under a smooth brown PVC jacket that resists snagging on long pulls through joists, wall cavities and crawlspaces. Also serves doorbells, chimes, irrigation valves, security panels and other Class 2 control circuits.

  • 20 AWG solid bare copper, 3 conductors
  • Conductor colors: Red, White, Green
  • 150 Volt rating per NEC Article 725
  • Type CL2 (power-limited circuit cable); CSA C22.2 No. 214 Type CMH
  • ETL listed to UL 13 and UL 444; meets the UL 1581 vertical tray flame test (FT-1)
  • Insulation 5 mils, brown PVC jacket 14 mils, approximate OD 0.121"
  • Minimum bend radius 0.5"
  • Copper weight 9 lbs per 1000 Ft; approximate cable weight 13 lbs per 1000 Ft
  • Suits three-wire runs - one conductor more than a basic two-wire thermostat run, for fan control or a spare
  • 500 Ft spool
  • For indoor general-purpose runs; not rated for direct burial, wet locations, or return-air plenums

Wiring Tip: Thermostat terminals are lettered, not colored: R is 24 V hot from the transformer, W is heat, Y is cool, G is fan, C is the common return, and O/B is the heat-pump reversing valve. The conductor colors in this cable are listed above and do not necessarily line up with those letters, so label both ends of every run as you pull it rather than trusting color alone.

Plenum Tip: CL2 is a general-purpose rating for runs through joists and wall cavities. It is NOT rated for return-air plenums, riser shafts, or drop ceilings used as return-air paths - those need plenum-rated cable (CL2P or CMP). Check the installation environment before pulling cable.
