Tapping Tip: Drill the hole at slow-to-medium drill speed using cutting oil for steel (or kerosene for aluminum). Then tap by hand or at very low RPM: turn the tap forward one full revolution, then back a quarter to half turn to break the chip - that's how you avoid binding and broken taps. Keep the tap perpendicular to the workpiece on the first few turns to get the thread started square.
