BAR TYPE SASH LIFT, BRASS - 4"National V170 series bar-type sash lift for raising the lower sash on double-hung windows. The 4" bar mounts horizontally on the bottom rail of the lower sash and gives a comfortable, full-hand grip for raising and lowering the window. Also serves as a pull on cabinet doors, drawers, chests, and storage bins where a wider, flatter handle is preferred over a knob.
- National V170 series bar-type sash lift / pull
- 4" bar length with concealed mounting at each end
- Cold-rolled steel construction with Brass finish
- Primary use: lower-sash lift on wood and vinyl double-hung windows
- Secondary use: cabinet, drawer, chest, and bin pull
- Mounting screws included in matching finish
- Mounting span approximately 5-5/8" between screw centers
Installation Tip: Center the lift on the bottom rail of the lower sash so the bar sits roughly 1" up from the bottom edge - this gives the most natural arm position for raising the window. Predrill pilots sized to the supplied screws to avoid splitting the rail, especially on thin vinyl or composite sashes. On vinyl windows, drill through the outer skin only and back the screws out a half-turn after seating so the lift doesn't crush the hollow rail. If you are replacing an older lift, dry-fit the new one over the existing screw holes - V170 follows the most common 5-5/8" mounting spacing but older sashes may use 5" or 6" centers, in which case fill the old holes with toothpick-and-glue and drill fresh pilots.
Pair-with Tip: Pair the bar lift on the lower sash with a matching crescent sash lock on the meeting rails so all visible window hardware shares one finish. National's V600 crescent sash locks are offered in the same finish range (White, Brass, Antique Brass, Nickel, Satin Nickel, Zinc Plated) so the lift and lock can match on standard double-hung windows.
Note: A 4" bar suits most standard residential double-hung sashes. For very wide windows (over about 30" sash width) or for cabinet doors over 18" tall, step up to a 6" bar lift for better leverage and a more proportional look. Finish choice should match the rest of the visible window or cabinet hardware (locks, hinges, escutcheons) - swapping just the lift in a different finish reads as a mismatch.
