Application Tip (3-1/4"): 12d-equivalent length with a .131" diameter shank. Used for double top plates, rim joist to plate connections, ledger fastening into solid 2x rim, drywall corner backing into stud, and heavier blocking. The .131" diameter is the IRC standard for many code-prescribed stud-to-plate connections - check local code if substituting smaller diameter.
Stick vs Coil Tip: 21-degree stick nailers feed faster on a long flat run but the magazine sticks out from the body and limits access in tight corners. For close-quarter framing inside stud bays or against blocking, a coil framing nailer feeds with a shorter magazine profile. Coil collation also packs more nails per reload (~300-350 vs 60-80 in a stick strip), but stick nails are typically cheaper per box.
