GREAT NECK BALL PEEN HAMMER - 8 OZ

Great Neck Saw 8 oz machinist ball peen hammer for metalwork - peening rivets, striking chisels and punches, drift work, and shaping or hardening sheet metal. The drop-forged steel head combines a flat striking face with a hemispherical "peen" end; the American hickory handle absorbs vibration and lets you choke up near the head for control or grip the butt for full leverage.

  • Drop-forged steel head, heat-treated for repeated striking
  • Flat striking face and hemispherical ball peen end
  • American hickory handle, wedged into the head
  • Head weight: 8 oz

Selection Tip: Lightest of the line - jeweler's work, peening soft rivets, light sheet metal dimpling, nail-set striking, and bench tasks where head weight would over-drive the work. Easiest to control single-handed with a choke grip up near the head.

Use Tip: Strike with the flat face for driving chisels and punches; use the round peen end for actual peening - work in overlapping circles to expand the metal surface (the original purpose of ball peen on copper rivets and sheet stock). Let the head do the work and keep your wrist loose; choke up the handle for control on light strikes, grip the butt for power.

Care Tip: Wipe the head clean after use; light oil prevents rust on the polished face. Check the handle each session for cracks at the eye or splinters along the grip - a loose or split hickory handle needs replacement before the next swing. Mushroomed faces should be ground flush (a mushroomed striking face can shed chips).
