Tamper-resistant shutters block foreign objects (paperclips, hairpins, keys) inserted into either slot alone, satisfying NEC 406.12 tamper-resistance requirements for residential receptacles in habitable rooms. A reduced-depth body fits in shallow remodel boxes that will not accept a standard GFCI.
